SURFING FOR TURF ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB
FEBRUARY/MARCH 2000

www.pestfacts.org (Pest Fact Information Center)
This site was developed by R.I.S.E. (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment). This site is a great source of information to support the responsible use of pesticides. It has a pest of the month in which this month's pest is the mosquito. It has news stories such as Proposed Senate Bill Puts Children Health at Risk where the topic is about how pesticides are needed to control cockroaches, fire ants, poison ivy, etc around school yards. In Pest Identification you get information on both common weeds and insects including geographic location of pest, description and picture, life cycle, prevention, and control. There is also an excellent article on the benefits of healthy turf in Pesticide Facts.

www.espn.go.com/golfonline (ESPN Golf)
If you're a fan of golf this site is an absolute must. ESPN Golf contains articles on all golf tours PGA, LPGA, Senior PGA, Nike Tour, and European Tour. It lists broadcast dates and times and a real time leader board. In the tour area you can specify which tour you are interested in and find information on player statistics, rankings, players themselves, and leader board. In the rankings you can look up money leaders, all time money leaders, top 10 finishes, Ryder and Presidents Cup points, World Rankings and PGA Championship points. You are also able to look back at any major tournaments from the previous year and read articles and review the leader board. There is an Instruction and Equipment area. I found the equipment area very useful especially if you are in the market for new clubs. The Club Test '99 contains information on all club manufacturers and gives reviews on their clubs.

www.wwgcsa.org (Western Washington Golf Course Superintendents Association)
The WWGCSA is an affiliate chapter with the GCSAA and is dedicated to the highest standards in modern golf course management. This site contains industry articles, talks about their four certified technician categories, golf course technician, equipment technician, irrigation technician, and chemical technician. It also has a supplier index and several web links to weather and industry.

www.sleepingbearpress.com (Sleeping Bear Press)
Sleeping Bear Press is a leading publisher of golf books and has the best in sports, politics, nature, children's, health and Michigan related books. You can ask to receive a printed version of their catalog or you can browse online. Some of the current new golf releases include Pebble Beach Golf Links: The Official History and St. Andrews Open Championships: The Official History. Under the category of turf, they have many books including such titles as Bird Conservation on Golf Courses: A Design and Management Manual, Creeping Bentgrass Management: Summer Stresses, Weeds and Other Maladies, Practiced Drainage: Golf, Sportsturf and Horticulture, and Turfgrass Maintenance Reduction Handbook - Sports, Lawns and Golf. If you are looking for books on golf or turf, you should visit this site.

If you come across any interesting web sites (turf or non-turf related) please forward this information to: Dave at dallan@fairviewc.ab.ca or Steve at deermeadows@hotmail.com.
