This new article "Surfing for Turf on the World Wide Web" researched and written by Dave Allan and Steve Wilson of Fairview College will become a regular feature in the Turf Line News. If you would like to help them in future TLN issues with web sites you have found useful and informative, you can contact them at: Dave at dallan@fairviewc.ab.ca or Steve at deermeadows@hotmail.com.

www.sahalee.com (Sahalee Country Club)
This web site was set up by the superintendent and grounds crew at Sahalee Country Club, Redmond, WA the host of the 1998 PGA Championship. Because it was so difficult for Tom Wolff, the superintendent at Sahalee, to find information on previous tournaments, he and his crew set up this website which is dedicated to golf course maintenance. It includes all aspects of golf course maintenance from the history of Sahalee to mowing, construction, weather and equipment. Something you must see is a picture of the Pond at Nine South. To see this, go into the landscape folder and click on the last picture on the page.

www.weatheroffice.com (Environment Canada Weather Office)
Here you will find the source for weather in Canada. You can also get weather for United States or International cities. You can acquire current weather or 5 day forecasts. You can also see a visual satellite image for North America.

www.ngf.org (National Golf Foundation)
This site provides information on Golf Business Publications, Golf Business Information Services, Golf Facility Consulting Services, Golf Course Construction Activity, and National Institute of Golf Management. It also provides listings of other golf web sites.

www.turfzone.com (The Turfzone)
This site has links to many equipment, irrigation or fertilizer manufacturers and retailers that you might be looking for. Unfortunately, the Canadian links are not quite as thorough as the American links. Hopefully in time this will improve. The association folder contains a listing of various turf associations for superintendents, equipment technicians, and landscape contractors. In the classified folder you can find a listing of machinery, parts and accessories either for sale or wanted. You can also post any items you have for sale or are looking for. There is an online Turf Magazine as well.

www.gcsaa.org (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America)
This site has a wealth of information. Non-members can access Education Seminars, Conference Information, Par for the Course Television Series, For Your Golfers, Golf and the Environment, GCSAA Research, Careers in Golf Course Management, Hiring a Superintendent, and Frequently Asked Questions. Members of the GCSAA can access all the above as well as Material Safety Data Sheets, Discussion Forums, Membership Directory, Employment Postings, and the GCSAA Bookstore. The overwhelming feature of this site is the emphasis on turfgrass education.

www.rcga.org (Royal Canadian Golf Association)
There are over 38,000 hits on this site since June 12/97. It covers areas such as the Environment and Agronomy, Future Links National Junior Golf Program, Amateur Championships, Rules of Golf, Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, and Golf Canada. Golf Canada contains a search engine for Canadian sites, the magazine online, and links to other Canadian and international associations.

If you come across any interesting web sites (turf or non-turf related) please forward this information to: Dave at dallan@fairviewc.ab.ca or Steve at deermeadows@hotmail.com.
