President's Message

It Really is Game on!
As my term as your President begins, I cannot help but think of those who have sat in this seat before me. Thank you for your belief in our Association. Most specifically, I would like to thank my predecessor, Ms. Dena Gent. One of my long time friends and support systems in this Industry, I wish to congratulate you on an eventful 2009, and one that you should be forever proud of as the President of this Association. It is with cautious steps that I fill your shoes; our membership is fortunate to have someone as great as you.
I wish to THANK everyone who attended the 2010 WCTA Conference in Nanaimo for their support. This Association cannot function without its membership making a commitment to the functions that are planned. Our commitment to you is to continue to bring current, interesting, and meaningful programs for your review. I was most interested to listen to the discussions and questions brought forth by our membership to the speakers. As I spent Monday night with all of our speakers, I came to find out that many of them appreciate and applaud “audience participation”. As a rule, the more participation from the audience = better presentations from the Speaker. Keep the floor for discussion open-Thank you!
The WCTA and its membership enter some interesting arenas for 2010. The Cosmetic Pesticide ban will be up front in the minds of most, as a “Tool in the Turf Managers tool box” is being threatened. We will continue to keep you updated from a government and legal level. Remember, it is with unity that we will have a voice and have that voice heard, at these levels that most of us are unfamiliar with. I impress upon all who have a stake in this “discussion” to contact your local government, provincial MLA and federal MP; explain to them our situation, and our professional ability to manage this tool and invite them to your facility to show them the RESPONSIBLE management you practice. If we make our voice heard, they will listen.
I would be remiss not to Thank all of the members who let their name stand for the elections to the Board of Directors for 2010. I wish to congratulate and thank the Board of Directors for 2010 for their commitment and time to this Association for the next year who are as follows:

We all have so much to do every day with our careers and our families; it is truly an inspiration for this President to have had to have had an election to create the 2010 Board of Directors. We have so much vested in this great Industry of ours, it is wonderful to see the commitment from some many. Finally, I would also like to personally thank Karen Hounsome, whose tireless work behind the scenes throughout the transition went highly unnoticed. It is with guidance from people like her that I feel confident in steering this Association for the following year.
